Streaming Service:

It is an entertainment service platform that provides live or recorded media content via the internet. These services apply to those users who get the subscription of the streaming providers on a monthly or yearly basis.

How does streaming work? (1)

It works like other data processing services do and provides the data over the internet browsers that are useful in playing audio and video contents using small data streaming signals. Consumer’s devices collect these signals and with the flow of these signals, audio and video will play on the device.

Streaming transport protocols:

There are two main transport protocols of the streaming services that arrange the signals and help in reaching the consumer’s screen successfully. These protocols are USER DATAGRAM PROTOCOL (UDP) and TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROTOCOL (TCP). Both of these protocols are supported and managed over the internet protocol (IP).

Comparison of UDP and TCP:

  • TCP is responsible for the proper arrangements of the order of streaming packets.
  • UDP as compared to TCP is not a reliable service because it drops the streaming signals on its way but it is a fast-moving service than the TCP.
  • In the case of streaming, fast available service is more important than reliability because if someone is attending an important meeting via the internet and TCP makes him wait for a better quality display then the consumer ultimately wants to move via UDP because of its fast service connection.
  • On the other hand, when the consumer requires reliable service than faster service, such as video on demand, HTTP live and MPEG-DASH uses the Transmission Control Protocol always. Because TCP helps in transferring a reliable source of streaming for better entertainment.

Factors that slow down streaming:

The process of slowing down the steaming data service mainly occurs on two sides, network or consumer side. The factors on the network side are as follows:

  • Network latency: The latency may occur due to varieties of factors, one of them is the storage place for the content that the consumer wants to search.
  • Network congestion: This problem may occur due to a burden on the server by sending excessive data through the network. This creates pressure on the network that results in slow streaming.

The problems of streaming that occurs on the consumer side are:

  • Wi-Fi Problem: Sometimes, the Wi-Fi router gets sucked and unable to provide the right flow of signals that cause slowing of streaming therefore, restarting the router or shifting to Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi may help to solve this issue.
  • Slow performance devices: Slow streaming is also affected by the consumer’s device due to various programs running at the same time, if these programs are cleared from the backend then it may improve the streaming.

Types of Streaming:

There are two general types of streaming that are:

  • Video on demand
  • Live to stream

Video on demand: This streaming may be called an archived live stream. This stream is based on the content that the customer usually watches or listens during the recent streaming. Therefore video on demand realizes the demand of the consumer thus provide relative content on the internet.

Live to stream: Stream via on-air, required CDN/media server that helps in the distribution of the encoded digital content from the camera. Live streaming is not the same as the early broadcasting we have seen from our mobiles or computers. Now the whole scenario of live streaming is change with the addition of sending or receiving live messages or live audio and video chat options.
